Obituary

SPRINGFIELD- William James Showell Sr., 90, transitioned to his heavenly home peacefully on May 27th, 2022 at Holyoke Medical Center. He was born on January 10,1932 in Whaleyville, Maryland to the late Helen Showell. He is predeceased by his brother William Jake Showell and widowed by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Lee (Taylor) Showell. He was a proud graduate of Worcester High School in Newark, Maryland, class of 1950. William was a decorated man of service. He was a Korean War and Vietnam War veteran where he served as a tailgunner. In total, he served four years in the United States Army and twenty-two years in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1988. While returning home to his family, he joined the United States Postal Service as a mail handler retiring after 20 years of service. William was an avid fisherman who enjoyed playing and watching baseball games as well as harvesting crops yearly in his garden. William is survived by his six children Rev. Dr. Helen B. Lockwood and her sister, William Jr. (Margaret), Beverly, Ronald, and Douglas. William leaves a legacy of nine grandchildren; Lamar Nash (Sarah), Tyrell Adeyemi (Natasha), Andrea Showell, Sterling Showell, Devon Showell, Douglas Showell, Taylor Miller-Showell, Donovan Ford-Showell, and Kellen Smith. As well as seven great-grandchildren; GraceLucille, RubyRose, PearlElizabeth, ZathanielJean, Rowen Showell-Rouse, Ava Adeyemi and Amari Adeyemi along with a host of friends. Calling hours are from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on Tuesday June 7, 2022. The celebration of life will immediately follow at 12:30pm. Both are located at the First Baptist Church, 760 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
