Winifred McCormick
1935 – 2022
West Springfield – Winifred (Rosenbeck) McCormick, 86, died peacefully at home Wednesday afternoon surrounded by her loving family. Winifred was born and raised in Springfield, the daughter of William and Julia Rosenbeck and was a graduate of both Cathedral High School and the Elms College. A retired kindergarten teacher, Winnie shared her passion for learning with thousands of young children for 30 years in the Springfield School system. Following her retirement, Winnie redirected her energy to help serve the homeless population in West Springfield. She treasured her time spent volunteering at the Parish Cupboard serving meals and greeting guests. The simplest pleasures in life brought Winnie the greatest joy. Any time spent with her husband Jim, (the love of her life), her 3 children, their spouses and her 6 grandchildren was all she wished for. She was an avid reader, enjoyed travel, the beach and gatherings with family and friends. She was the loving wife for 54 years of James McCormick who passed away in 2014. She leaves her three children and their spouses Mary and Paul Butler, Mike and Barbara J McCormick and John and Susan McCormick: six grandchildren; Katherine, Brian and Christopher Butler, Christopher and Zachary McCormick and Finn McCarty. She also leaves two sisters Ruth Sharon and Irene Donelan. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a brother William Rosenbeck.
