Yong Sun Tvrdik
1954 – 2016

West Springfield – After a long and courageous fight against cancer, Yong Sun Tvrdik, 62, beloved wife of Barry D. Tvrdik of Amostown Road, has entered into God's loving arms. Yong passed away at home, in the arms of her loving husband on June 23, 2016. Yong was born on June 26, 1954 in Seoul, South Korea, the daughter of Joohyun Kim, father, and Geunyoung Lee, mother, both also from Seoul. Yong received a Bachelor Degree in Liberal Arts from Seogang University and immigrated to the United States in 1977. She moved to the Springfield area in the early 1980's. Yong, a lifelong learner, also earned Associate Degrees in Mechanical Engineering Technology and Landscape Design and Management Technology, both from Springfield Technical Community College. In honor of her academic achievements, her husband will establish two scholarships at STCC, in her memory, one in each of her degree fields. Yong was employed at the former Springfield Wire, Inc. as a Quality Engineer; Stanley Park, as a garden designer, where she designed the park's current logo; Berkshire Industries, as a Quality Engineer; and B&R Machine, where she was employed as a Quality Manager. Yong leaves her husband Barry; stepson Russell Tvrdik and his wife Nicole, and their daughter Evelyn; stepson Evan Tvrdik; sister Yong Hee; niece Seungjoo Yuu, nephew Kevin Choi, and their sons Erik, Edward and Elvin. She also leaves several other nephews, nieces and their children. Yong was preceded in death by her son Michael Zabik. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Tuesday June 28th at 10:00am followed by burial in Pine Hill Cemetery in Westfield.
