Obituary

Yvonne Mary (Mercure) Anderson, better known as Nina, 80, of Granby MA, passed away October 11, 2018 peacefully at home surrounded by loving family. Nina was born in Granby on January 5, 1938 and graduated from South Hadley High School in 1955. She is predeceased by her parents Ernest Mercure Sr. and Adella (Newcomb) Mercure, by her first husband John St. George with whom she had three children, by her second husband David Anderson with whom she had two children, and by her brothers Robin Mercure and Timothy Mercure. She is survived by her children: John St. George Jr., Robert St. George and wife Kathy, Robin St. George and partner Jamie, Kelly Anderson, and David Anderson Jr. and wife Shelley. She is also survived by her brothers Ernest Mercure Jr. and Lee Mercure, and her sister Arlene Burlin. She leaves behind five grandchildren: Rhianna, Alyssa, Kayla, Britton, and Hunter; and six great-grandchildren: Aiden, Chloe, Chase, Cody, Aubrie, and Kylie. The world was brighter for Nina's presence and became a little sadder with her passing. She was an avid lover of the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, the beach, metal detecting and gardening. She had a lovely voice and enjoyed singing along while her husband David played songs of the Kingston Trio, Peter Paul and Mary, Joan Baez and other artists of that era. She also wrote poetry and stories, taking after her grandmother Adella Newcomb. Nina was a wonderful cook and baker and loved making cakes and cupcakes for family birthdays. Especially precious to her were the times the whole family gathered for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and the annual Easter-egg hunt. She saw the good in everyone, she was kind to all and sought to be of service wherever she could. She was an example to her children and her children's friends to always keep moving forward in life. She was optimistic by nature and saw the light in every person's eyes. She was beautiful and gracious and will be terribly missed. The family wishes to express appreciation to O'Connell Care At Home, Holyoke VNA Hospice Life Care, and all those who provided care and assistance so compassionately. Calling hours will be 4-7pm Monday October 15 at Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home, 33 Lamb Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. The funeral will be from Curran-O'Brien Tuesday October 16 at 10AM, followed by a Mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 256 W. State Street, Granby, MA at 11AM. The mass will be followed by a burial service at West Street Cemetery, 90 West Street, Granby, MA. Family and friends will gather at 2:30pm for a celebration of Nina's life at the Summit View Banquet House, 555 Northampton Street, Holyoke, MA 01040. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Alzheimer's research or to Holyoke VNA Hospice Life Care, 575 Beech Street, Holyoke, MA 01040, holyokevna.org.
