1930

P. Joseph Curran, an insurance salesman at the time, decides to start a funeral home in West Springfield and partners with Luther White to form the White-Curran Funeral Home in the old Dr. Steele Homestead on Westfield Street

 

1933

Outgrowing the Westfield Street location, P. Joseph Curran leases Mrs. Howard K. Regal property on the corner or Union Street & Park Street to form the Curran Funeral Home

 

1939

The Ely-Worthy Mansion becomes available and is purchased by P. Joseph Curran for $7,006.62 He joins with his friend Ernie B. Jones and begins the Curran-Jones Funeral Home. The staff consists of P. Joseph Curran, Ernie Jones and Bernie Smith

 

1955

In need of expansion, P. Joseph Curran adds two rear chapels to the Mansion and creates more space for visiting hours and funeral home services.

 

1962

P. Joseph Curran, having operated the funeral home over 30 years, dies in February and his son Richard J. Curran takes over operation of Curran-Jones Funeral Home. 

 

1987

Joseph Curran, graduates and receives his funeral directors license and joins Curran-Jones Funeral Home as a third-generation funeral director.

 

1999

Richard J. Curran retires and Joseph Curran purchases the funeral home and property.

 

2022

Richard J. Curran dies in February and the staff consists of Joseph D. Curran, Vincent Govoni, Ryan Kelleher and the beginning of the Fourth-Generation of Curran’s, as Joseph Curran’s twin boys start helping in the business.

 

2023

Curran-Jones Funeral Home becomes the only family-owned funeral home in West Springfield.
